Heroin Overdoses Soar in Pinellas County

Pinellas County is experiencing increases in heroin overdoses after cracking down on pills.  According to the Center for Disease Control, the national rates of heroin overdoses have quadrupled from 2002 to 2013.  Others states are experiencing significant increases in heroin overdoses as well.  Recently, the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy has released a multijurisdictional plan to address this epidemic.

CLAAD Responds to ONDCP’s Plan to Curb Heroin Use

Recently the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) unveiled a plan to curb the surge in heroin use and overdoses in select states. ONDCP will provide funding to those states that have reached epidemic levels of heroin-related deaths. The Center for Lawful Access and Abuse Deterrence (CLAAD) responded to the plan by commending ONDCP but acknowledging that it is likely that the plan and its funding will need to be expanded in order to really get ahead of this crisis.
